Helping a photographer choose a new computer

Helping a photographer choose a new computer

A well known USA photographer in Virginia decided it was time to upgrade her computer. A local computer store had put together a recommended system for her, but she wanted someone independent and trustworthy to look it over and check that it was suitable for high volume photography work.

We looked over the recommendation from the store, which was pretty good. We made a few recommendations that would help improve performance and reliability:

  • We suggested a particular model of SSD (solid state disk) that we’ve found to be fast and reliable.
  • We suggested a RAID array of disks could be useful if they need higher reliability.
  • We made a few tweaks to the components in the machine.

The photographer got their new computer locally, with confidence that it would be a fast, reliable machine suitable for their workload.
